What things make a condom less effective?

Condoms are a great form of protection from both STIs and unwanted pregnancy. However, a few things make them less effective:

  • Doubling up. Never put two condoms on at once. The friction can cause them to break. A single condom should be just fine.

  • Oil-based lube. This can also cause the condom to tear. Use water-based or silicone-based instead.

  • Poor fit. Check out my video to understand the best way to size your condom.

  • Sloppy removal. When you’ve ejaculated, hold the base of the condom and pull out. Remove the condom in a place that allows you to clean up any ejaculate that escapes.
